During Your Studies

Advice and support

A wide range of help is available to you, including access to Student Advisers who can provide advice and support on a range of issues including immigration, finance, employment and housing.

Support for you and your family

Our medical centre provides free health-care to all international students (within a three mile radius) and their spouses and children who stay in the UK for more than six months. We have special facilities for families, including:

International Students’ Asssociation (ISA)

Our International Students’Association (ISA) is a friendly student-based association that can help you overcome any problems that you might have about the lifestyle and your studies in Loughborough. The International Students’Association also organises many social events including visits to different parts of Europe and the UK, and the popular annual International Day:

The Students’ Union also supports many national societies and in 2009 was awarded ‘Best International Students Union of the Year’ by the National Union of Students. This was in recognition of a number of initiatives the Union has made to ensure that all international students have an opportunity to become involved in all student activities. In the same year the Union also received an award for ‘Best Event for International Students’.

Work opportunities

International students can supplement their income by working:

Spouses who are in the UK for 12 months or more are usually allowed to work full- time or part-time. Loughborough Students’ Union Employment Exchange can match you with suitable part-time jobs.

Under Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) of the UK’s points- based immigration system masters and PhD students who successfully complete their course are eligible to make an application to stay and work in the UK for up to two years after the completion of their studies. See the Guidance Note ‘Working in the UK after your studies’ at www.ukcisa.org.uk.

Other support departments

Our Careers Centre offers specialist international student careers advice both while you are studying, and after you graduate.
